Cosmetic Acupuncture in St. John’s – Increased Vitality & No Surgery

Thank you for your interest in cosmetic acupuncture, a non-surgical approach to facial rejuvenation. Unlike other cosmetic procedures, cosmetic acupuncture addresses not only the signs of aging but also your overall health.

We say overall health because cosmetic acupuncture is not just skin deep. The acupuncturists at Back To Health treat not only your face, but we also address your whole body, just like a traditional acupuncture treatment. You start looking healthier and have more vitality because you feel healthier inside too.

Cosmetic acupuncture works by increasing qi (pronounced chee) and blood circulation to the area being needled, which results in fewer wrinkles, smoother skin tone, tighter skin and increased elasticity, and much more. From the Western medicine viewpoint, needling can cause cells to release more collagen and elastin. Cosmetic acupuncture is less expensive, healthier and safer than modern procedures. It is virtually risk free with none of the side effects associated with surgery such as scarring, prolonged bruising or numbness.

What to Expect

For optimal results, treatments are scheduled twice a week for 5 weeks (10 treatments), but more may be needed depending on your skin condition. If you need results faster (like for a big event), contact Back To Health to ask your practitioner about other possible schedules.

Your first consultation will include an overview of your health in regards to Chinese medicine. We will discuss the influence of diet, exercise and lifestyle as it relates to your particular condition.

Once we have completed the initial overview, you will be given suggestions to help you on your way to better skin health, which may include Chinese herbal medicine, nutritional counselling, exercise recommendations and skin care regimen, in addition to acupuncture.

Each treatment takes from 45 to 60 minutes. Results can last from 3 to 5 years. After the initial 10-treatment regimen, a maintenance schedule can be tailored to your needs.

SkinPen® Microneedling Treatment

Microneedling is an ancient TCM Acupuncture technique involving multiple needle insertions in an area.- traditionally called "pecking" or "tapping".  A plum blossom needle, seven star or dermal hammer with a multiple needle head is a traditional TCM tool for this purpose.  Today electro-Acupuncture equipment  is more popular.  Microneedling can be used on the head , face or body for the purpose of stimulation and rejuvenation of the surface.  Often used to treat hair loss, scars or for facial rejuvenation, Microneedling, with scientifically proven results, is the fastest growing cosmetic treatment today.

There are three phases to the wound-repair process:

  • Phase I: Inflammation. Piercing the skin triggers your immune system to cleanse the wound, remove debris, increase blood flow and begin to create new tissue.

  • Phase II: Proliferation. The wound is rebuilt with new granulation cells, which are part of the extracellular matrix. Additionally, a new network of blood vessels develops.

  • Phase III: Remodeling. The wound is replaced with new dermal tissues and blood vessels.

Best of all, SkinPen works. Ninety percent of subjects in the clinical trial would recommend the procedure to family and friends.
